PROGRAMS AT LEAP ACADEMY CHILD CARE
Each of our classroom provide a unique set of experiences that follow the guidelines of the Wisconsin Models Early Learning Standards and developmentally appropriate practice. We pride ourselves in providing exceptional care and forming strong bonds and relationships with our children and families.
TODDLERS
12 months – 24 months
Our toddler program emphasizes great strong relationships and developing autonomy. Continuing with sign language and segwaying into verbal communication. Exploration of the physical environment. Access to many materials.
DURING THE DAY...
Our toddler program is a continuation of the flexibility of our infant program, in that children are still allowed and encouraged to follow their natural schedule. Some trends that our classrooms tend to follow based on the needs of the group include moving towards three solid group mealtimes, one longer afternoon nap instead of multiple shorter naps, a morning and an afternoon outside time. Other lesson plan activities happen surrounding those major activities, are short, repeated often, and are intended to grasp the children’s interests.
DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES AT THIS AGE
Some typical developmental milestones that we see in the toddler room include using gestures and words (sign language), showing a strong sense of self as an individual, such as expressing “no,” recognizing and identifying body parts, eating at a table independently, showing pride in accomplishments, expressing emotions through behavior, showing affection for familiar people, and exploring. Some children in this age group will have a language burst around eighteen months in which their vocabulary will increase as much as eight words per day!
